Stephen Ministries One-On-One Lay Caring Ministry
Our Mission Statement – We, as Stephen Ministers, through prayer and meditation, commit ourselves to the service of others with compassion and understanding to help nurture wholeness in mind and spirit through God’s grace and love.
The Woods’ Stephen Ministry – Stephen Ministry has been an integral part of our church community since 1998. Currently this program is comprised of 17 fully trained Stephen Ministers, each of whom has completed 50 hours of instruction required prior to assuming the role of caregiver. Once trained, these individuals continue to meet twice monthly for Small Peer group supervision and for continuing education. As our mission statement reflex, Stephen Ministers are trained to walk beside persons in times of grief, loss of job, divorce, illness, or difficulty dealing with the stresses of life changes: new babies, retirement, etc. Stephen Ministers do not fix the situation but they walk with the care receiver through the situation.
Stephen Ministry – Since the Stephen Ministry was founded in 1975, it is estimated that the Stephen Ministers have provided care for more than a half million care receivers. Stephen Ministry is a through and comprehensive “system” that emphasizes a Christ-centered, confidential, one-on-one, same-gender ministry. The ministry is designed to be a supportive listening program, for persons experiencing life changes. The relationships that grow from this ministry are rewarding to both the are receiver and the Stephen Minister. With the assistance of the Pastor and Stephen leaders, care receivers are prayerfully matched up with a Stephen Minister. All aspects of the Stephen Ministry program are focused on Christ being the center of all caring relationship.
