Musical Ensembles

“There are songs everywhere in scripture. The people of God sing. They express exuberance in realizing the majesty of God and the mercy of Christ, the wholeness of reality and their new-found ability to participate in it. Songs proliferate. Hymns gather the voices of men, women, and children into century-tiered choirs. Moses sings. Miriam sings. Deborah sings. David sings. Mary sings. Angels sing. Jesus and His disciples sing. Paul and Silas sing. When persons of faith become aware of who God is and what He does, they sing. The songs are irrepressible.”

- from “Living the Message”, by Eugene H. Peterson

Voice of The Woods – is comprised of approximately 25 singers. This ensemble provides weekly musical leadership for the 8:30 am worship service. Voice of The Woods sings an eclectic range of music from early music compositions, 20th century anthems, African-American spirituals, American folk and gospel arrangements, and even the occasional worship appropriate Broadway chorus. Members develop deep friendships and a rich sense of community through focused and productive rehearsals, offering the opportunity for fun and fellowship and mutual prayer. All singers are welcome. No audition is required.

Rehearsals are held in the sanctuary on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Women of The Woods – is a 20 member ensemble, bringing four part women’s harmony to the worship experience. Bells of The Woods – is a three-octave ensemble for ringers with a fair measure of handbell or musical experience. The bells ring every 8 weeks in worship.

Bluegrace – provides musical leadership for The Wood’s 11:00 am service. Believing God’s worship is too glorious and complex for any single style of music, this service deliberately “blurs” musical boundaries to include worship appropriate secular tunes, praise and worship, current contemporary Christian, updated and “contemporized” hymns, folk, Celtic and Blues.
